Communications & Outreach Adviser
Julian Demetriadi started his career in the hotel industry and became the specialist writer/journalist on the Catering Times, which was the weekly rival to Caterer and Hotelkeeper. He went on to edit Hospitality magazine and manage the public relations for the industry’s professional body, Hotel & Catering International Management Association, and in 2006/7 managed the PR for the Association’s successful change of name to the Institute of Hospitality.
In the ‘noughties’, Julian was responsible for the PR for the highly successful Government backed/Institute of Hospitality’s ‘Hospitable Climates’ sustainability awareness campaign, aimed at the UK hospitality industry.
In 2011, CommunicationsPoint was a key player in the acclaimed new image for the British Association of Hospitality Accountants (BAHA), which became HOSPA – the Hospitality Association for Finance, Revenue Management and IT Professionals.
In 2013, Julian founded the wildly popular Salisbury Fringe for new bite-sized plays in pubs and cafés, written by new local writers and performed by professional actors. He then became Chairman of the Salisbury Fringe Festival. The first and second annual events in October 2013 and 2014 were such a success with the public that the 2015 Salisbury Fringe was even bigger, incorporating dance and novel writing.
Julian is a long-time member of the congregation of Salisbury Cathedral and although not a practicing musician, he understands the central role of good music, well presented, in Christian worship. His marriage to Catherine Demetriadi – now his business partner in FundraisingPoint (link to www.fundraisingpoint.net), a branch of CommunicationsPoint – finds him on the road with her as she plays the violin and sings in parish churches and major cathedrals, in the UK and abroad. He is passionate about church music and loves the role of being Catherine’s 'groupie’!
Julian’s expertise in communications and marketing for business and the arts will be invaluable to churches building their music programmes and indeed every aspect of their ministry and outreach.
